Veteran Non-Profit Spotlight: Hope For The Warriors

By March 17, 2019September 17th, 2024No Comments

In this month’s installment of our Veteran Non-Profit Spotlight, we shine a light on Hope For The Warriors. Hope For The Warriors provides comprehensive support programs for service members, veterans, and military families that are focused on transition, health and wellness, peer engagement, and connections to community resources. We caught up with Communications Director Matt Holton to learn more about the important work they’re doing in the veteran community.

Describe the work your organization does and who you endeavor to help.

Hope For The Warriors is a national nonprofit organization with grassroots impact. We were founded by military spouses who witnessed, firsthand, the effects of war on their families and community. The service members, veterans, caregivers and families of the Fallen we serve are our neighbors, friends and family—we are deeply connected to the military community.

Our programs take a comprehensive and tailor-made approach, as we understand that many areas of a service member’s life impact their well-being. Our services focus on Clinical Health & Wellness, Sports & Recreation and Transition Services. When we do not have a program that meets a specific need, we connect with one of our many partners.

Simply put, Hope For The Warriors restores self, family and hope to the military community.

If someone asked you about your organization, what’s the one most important aspect or takeaway you’d want them to remember?

What makes Hope For The Warriors unique is that we are a family. Not only do we support the entire military family, but the majority of our staff comes from military families themselves. This perspective allows us to greater understand the needs of the entire family unit and offer comprehensive programming that touches every aspect of a service member’s life.

What’s the single biggest ‘push’ or area of focus for your organization right now?

Our programs and services are specific to the needs of an individual service member and their family, so we do not push one-size fits all approach-it’s more comprehensive. We always send service members to our website, hopeforthewarriors.org, to apply for services, so they can receive the specific support they need.

Also, we cannot operate or provide HOPE to the military community without the support of generous patriots across the nation. We encourage those interested in giving back to visit hopeforthewarriors.org as well.

What’s the biggest single need your organization has right now?

Military families are always a moment away from crisis, and our organization has to be ready with support in those times. For example, with the recent government shutdown, our Coast Guard families needed our help.

40,000 Coast Guard families faced an uncertain number of tomorrows without the promise of a paycheck, leaving them needing support for necessities. Our intakes team reached a peak of fielding an average of 10 requests for assistance EVERY HOUR from Coast Guard families. In under three weeks, we directly impacted over 1,500 Coast Guard family members from 35 states in the form of gift cards for essentials, such as food and fuel.

We need partners and support in order to act quickly and decisively when the military community needs us. Our goal is to provide a hand up, not a handout, to our country’s heroes and make sure that message is carried throughout the year, not just when there is a national crisis, our country is at war or when a holiday triggers patriotism.

About Holloway Benefit Concepts

HBC was founded in early 2011 by Ryan Holloway. After serving over 8 years on active duty in the US Marine Corps, Ryan transitioned from being a full-time marine into an HR professional in early 2003. This began a journey and awoke a passion for helping companies who value their employees. After spending time working with a COBRA and FSA Administrator, an insurance company, and a large brokerage, Ryan realized that there were more unique and creative solutions for businesses than other companies were willing or able to realize. Seizing on his own entrepreneurial spirit, Ryan set out to found an independent agency designed to provide unique and original insurance solutions.
